Team Saskatchewan won its fifth consecutive national seniors’ championship title at the 2022 Everest Canadian Seniors Championships in Yarmouth. Team members include skip Sherry Anderson, third Patty Hersikorn, second Brenda Goertzen and lead Anita Silvernagle. Rounding out the team is lead Anita Silvernagle, second Brenda Goertzen and third Patty Hersikorn. Anderson said they had an amazing time in Yarmouth. On the men’s side, Ontario won gold with a 7-6 win over Alberta to also advance to the 2023 world competition. Team members are lead Paul Madden, second Chris Fulton, third Rich Moffatt, fourth Howard Rajala and alternate Phil Daniel.
“It doesn’t feel like we did what we could have done,” MacLeod said. “But when I reflect on it, it will be all positive.” Hilton noted they also had close to 500 students come in to watch the curling throughout the week. Locally it’s hoped that will translate into added interest in the junior program, where grassroots curling begins, he said.
For local curling fans, it was equally exciting. John Cameron started curling at the age of 12. He did traditional curling throughout his life and now enjoys stick curling. Having these championships in Yarmouth was a real treat.
