'It really is beautiful': Calgary lands 2027 North American Indigenous Games yyc
After almost a decade of lobbying by Tourism Calgary and partner the Tsuut’ina Nation, the city was awarded the continent’s largest Indigenous sporting and cultural event, whose latest edition wraps up this weekend in Halifax.
“We are committed to an inclusive, weeklong celebration of sport and culture, which will have a lasting impact on Indigenous athletes and Calgarians,” the mayor, who is in Halifax for the Games, said in a statement. Tsuut’ina Nation Chief Roy Whitney said hosting First Nations compatriots from across North America is a special privilege and one his visitors will cherish.
“We are absolutely thrilled to be a partner . . . we look forward to hosting Indigenous athletes and families on our beautiful lands at the foothills of the Rockies,” Whitney said in a statement.Sign up to receive daily headline news from the Calgary Herald, a division of Postmedia Network Inc.By clicking on the sign up button you consent to receive the above newsletter from Postmedia Network Inc.
