BREAKING: Toronto van attack mass murderer sentenced to life in prison
The van attack killer has been sentenced to life in prison after a downtown court heard the harrowing accounts of more than 20 people who had their lives changed by one of Canada’s worst acts of mass murder.
“Each and every member of your family is extraordinary,” Molloy said, commending on their work keeping Anne Marie’s memory alive through a foundation raising funds to combat violence against women. “I am glad you have each other.”“I often wonder how he is and if he feels comfort, love and security — so crucial to early childhood development. After each of them spoke, Superior Court Justice Anne Molloy emotionally commended each of them for their courage in coming to court and their choices that terrible day.Victim impact statements give courts the chance to hear from the people most hurt by an offender’s actions before deciding their fate, however, Minassian’s is already decided — he’s getting an automatic maximum sentence of life in prison.of 10 counts of first-degree murder and 16 counts of attempted murder 15 months ago.
Day 1 of Alek Minassian’s trial in Toronto’s worst mass killing opened on Nov. 10, 2020, with an agreed statement of facts including a series of videos taken the afternoon of the attack on April 23, 2018.
