Israel said airstrikes would continue but told UN Security Council it was not intervening in conflict

An Israeli military incursion into Syria has reached about 25 km southwest of Damascus, Syrian security sources said on Tuesday, after Israel seized a buffer zone in southern Syria and launched air strikes on Syrian army and air bases overnight.

Regional security sources and officers within the now fallen Syrian army said heavy Israeli airstrikes continued against military installations and airbases across Syria overnight, destroying dozens of helicopters and jets, as well as Republican Guard assets in and around Damascus.People pray as they gather at Sednaya prison in Damascus looking for loved ones.Men just released from prison dance at the entrance of Aleppo city on December 9.

The steamroller advance of the militia alliance headed by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham , a former al-Qaeda affiliate, was a generational turning point for the Middle East.

“This is an incredible moment for the Syrian people,” Deputy U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Robert Wood said in New York. “We’re really focused right now on trying to see where the situation goes. Can there be a governing authority in Syria that respects the rights and dignities of the Syrian population?”
