An athlete who trains in Victoria has placed fifth at the 2024 Paralympics on Tuesday.

Zach Gingras was racing in his second Paralympics in the Men’s T38 400m event, after having won the bronze medal in Tokyo 2020.

Gingras beat his Tokyo time of 50.85, but came in fifth place. His time was also his season best at 50.63. Racers from the USA came in first and second place. Jaydin Blackwell beat the world record time, crossing the line with a time of 48.49. Ryan Medrano finished at 49.74, a personal best. Colombia’s Juan Alejandro Campas Sanchez finished third at 49.92, followed by Iraq’s Ali Al-Rikabi at 50.34.

Medrano, Campas Sanchez and Al-Rikabi all finished with a personal best time and Teofilo Freitas from Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste and Carlos Alberto Castillo from Nicaragua both finished with a season best time.Laura has been working with CHEK since 2021 and is a graduate from Langara College’s journalism program.
