This U.S.-based inventor was looking to create a safer cannabis smoking experience for bong lovers by creating a bong that makes using lighters passé.

The product — the original design for which was submitted to the Ottawa sales office of InventHelp — claims to enhance safety and reduce the risk of burn-related injuries for bong enthusiasts. It does this by offering an effective, easy-to-use design that “prevents lighter burns while using a bong.” With or without a lighter, however, bong users tout the smoother toke of using a bong instead of smoking a joint. According to HealthLine, the “water in a bong eliminates the dry heat you get from a joint. The effect is often described as being cooler, creamy and smooth rather than harsh.”

That said, if concerns over smoking cannabis veer from safety into health, consider that “bong lung” is real, notes new research out of New Zealand.
