First Methodist Church of Irving said it joined the Global Methodist Church, a newly formed traditionalist denomination, after leaving the North Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church in March.
First Methodist Church of Irving announced it has officially joined the Global Methodist Church Saturday after officially disaffiliating from the North Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church at the end of March. In a written statement, the congregation said the new affiliation with the denomination became official Saturday.
The congregation of more than 500 members celebrated its new affiliation Sunday, which was Palm Sunday and the first day of Holy Week, the time when Christians observe the week before Easter.
