, sparked outrage after the team scored eight goals to win over their rival, E Na Fianna, in the Dublin Junior J. Shield final, theE Na Fianna’s coach reportedly asked the referee prior to the match if their opponent had a trans player, identified by the Independent as Italian national Giulia Valentino.
A match official also reportedly told Na Gaeil Aeracha’s captain during the first timeout that they “have a problem with your 21,” adding, the “player is male.”tap here to see other videos from our teamThe team’s policy on inclusivity states that its players “may play at training or in a match for the team they best identify with, without restriction.”
However, since the lopsided victory, which saw Na Gaeil Aercha’s beating Na Fianna, the LGFA is working on the development of a new policy regarding transgender athletes at matches. Sports writer Ewan MacKenna first tweeted about Valentino, noting how unsafe it could be for a biological male to compete against teen girls.
“Respect a lot of what @NaGaeilAeracha do, but this is absurd and actually dangerous,” he tweeted. “They’d [put] a biological adult male against 16-year-old-girls? Not going to put the photos as don’t want to highlight or hurt any individual feelings, but this genuinely will hurt someone physically.”Article content
