Entry polls in Iowa look good for Bernie Sanders. Follow along here for live updates
Photo: Al Drago/Bloomberg via Getty Images Over a year since the first batch of politicians and assorted business types announced their plans to run for the presidency, the Democratic primary is finally getting some electoral results, thanks to the first-in-the-nation Iowa caucuses. With a clear, not-too-cold evening throughout much of the state and a voting base energized to the point of exhaustion, the party is expecting a record-high turnout at the gatherings, which started around 7 p.
A slow rollout of results It’s been almost two hours since the beginning of caucusing, and just 1.36 percent of precincts are reporting. At the moment, the race is close — though far too small to draw any meaningful conclusions from. Though the preliminary survey is by no means comprehensive, the canceled Selzer poll from this weekend — which has correctly predicted each Democratic Iowa winner since 1988 — also had Sanders in the lead, according to FiveThirtyEight’s Clare Malone. Still, the race in the Hawkeye state is expected to be tight.
