An investigation is underway after a man was hurt while being chased by police on foot in Fort St. John.
In a prepared statement, RCMP Sgt. Janelle Shoihet said a police officer was patrolling an area of Fort St. John where there had been thefts from vehicles. At around 3 a.m., the officer encountered a man who fled when confronted. She said the man was chased by that officer, then joined by other officers who eventually captured the man.Shoihet said the man was assessed at the RCMP detachment by the B.C. Emergency Health Service and subsequently transported to a local area hospital with “what are believed to be” non-life threatening injuries.The RCMP then contacted the Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia, the organization charged with investigating possible police wrongdoing.
“The IIO B.C. is now investigating to determine whether police actions or inactions are linked to the man’s injuries,” Shoihet said.
