Kingwood interim coach DeWayne Singletary talking with the Lady Mustangs before practice start at the Mustangs field.Two days before school started, Lauren Hendrix resigned as Kingwood’s softball coach to pursue another option outside education.In need of a coach to begin the school year, Humble ISD named DeWayne Singletary as the interim coach.
Singletary was the bus driver last season for Kingwood’s junior varsity team and watched several games from the stands. He also was on the field doing in-and-out drills before games.He coached select softball when his daughter played and also has experience coaching high school baseball.Kingwood has a rich softball tradition.
“I had some buddies call me and tell me that this is a big-time job, and they aren’t even softball coaches,” Singletary said. “I knew this was a big job with a lot of pressure and I’m not scared of that at all.”
