I remember how jarring and uncomfortable I found it when the internet basically gentrified and my after-school hobby suddenly became a pathway to earning six-figure salaries. At the time, I decided I didn’t want my blog to be a walking advertisement for anyone but myself and I tuned in, turned on and dropped out; a decision that now seems laughable given that “selling out” has become something people aspire to.
