Modjarrad is leading the Army's effort to develop a coronavirus vaccine. The advantage to their approach, he said, is that the vaccine could be used for all coronaviruses, not just COVID-19, because other viruses in the coronavirus family have similar protein spikes on their surface. "Zika was part of a family of viruses that we have vaccines for," Modjarrad said."The world does not have any coronavirus vaccine license. It's not just a vaccine for COVID-19 that doesn't exist, it's a vaccine for any coronavirus that doesn't exist."
