NATUASHISH, N.L. — The Innu Nation in Newfoundland and Labrador is leaving the Premier’s Indigenous Round Table and contends its departure “should not come as a surprise.”

The Innu and the Nunatsiavut government, representing much of Labrador’s Inuit population, don’t believe NCC is a true Indigenous collective. The issue with NunatuKavut is only part of their beef with the province, as they maintain that Lisa Dempster, Minister responsible for Indigenous Affairs and Reconciliation, is in a conflict of interest and has shown bias.“The course of action appears to be to take no action and to dismiss the concerns of our people,” their letter reads. “This is disrespectful and unacceptable to Innu Nation and our First Nations.
