For a population over 50 that also works longer and plays harder than they ever have, technology is increasingly viewed as an essential tool that empowers older adults to live better lives paid AARP
e might not be commuting in flying cars yet, but we’ve come to depend on high-tech tools to regulate our environment, monitor our health and interact with those who live across the street or around the world. With a swipe of the screen or simple voice command, technology has transformed the way we interact with the world.
AARP, which has published reports about the undervalued influence of the 50-plus economy since 2013, found in its 2019that spending on tech purchases by 50-plus consumers is projected to reach $645 billion by 2050. The immense growth predicted for this portion of the tech industry is being fueled by sweeping societal changes.
“AARP realized that a lot could be done with technology that wasn’t being done,” Rick Robinson, vice president of product development for, said in an interview at CES in January. “We’re leveraging technology in a way that our audience can use it, meeting unmet needs or solving problems that aren’t being solved in the marketplace.”
