The outside of Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2022. - Ryan TaplinThere was no underground tunnel or hole in the wall when Ryan Taylor Wilband escaped from the provincial jail in Dartmouth in late August.

“I knew once I got my clothes back that I’d be able to fit in like I was one of the or a social worker,” Wilband said.So at about 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 22, Wilband put on his jeans,T-shirt and a medical face mask and hid in the shower. Wilband said as he waited to be buzzed through, he realized he was one step away from getting out or going back to his cell.“The people that came and talked to me … said I ended up going through six doors,” Wilband said.

Typically, after reportable incidents such as escapes or accidental releases from custody, the Justice Department releases the basic results of its internal investigation.
