Amid renewed investment by grocers in their store-branded offerings, studies show many shoppers no longer see store brands as lower quality than name brands.
After months of negotiation, Costco and Walmart have finally agreed to sign on to the grocery code of conduct. The two retailers were the remaining holdouts in a plan that looks to level the playing field between big grocers and their suppliers. Ltd., the company behind Sobeys, FreshCo, Safeway and other grocers, said in its 2024 annual report that it plans to continue growing and enhancing its portfolio of store brands.
