Today on Asking for a Trend, host Julie Hyman explores the latest inflation print, as well as trends in consumer travel spending and AI. Stocks are in focus ...

Stocks are in focus as July's Consumer Price Index report met Wall Street expectations,Lastly, the show tackles challenges facing AI development. Shayne Longpre and Robert Mahari, co-leads of the paper"Consent in Crisis: The Rapid Decline of the AI Data Commons," discuss tI'm Julie Hyman and for Josh left in and for the next half hour, we're breaking down the trends of today that move stocks tomorrow.

Well, again, when, when you're looking for value, there's a couple of products that really stand out.You can cruise for less than $100 a night and go to some pretty incredible destinations.Business packaging typically delivers value of 20 30% off when you bundle things together. But I think they're being cautious because of course, you know, we have had two great years of travel and so people are just being a little more particular in what they want and how they want to book it.

People have been going to Europe and to Asia and that's obviously significantly more expensive especially for the flight component of the trip.Stocks closing higher after a key inflation made measure increases at the slowest pace in three years here with the trading day takeaways. And that's ultimately a good thing for the Federal Reserve because it keeps the odds of a September rate cut firmly on the table.

So what I've been reading from economists that basically, yes, the fed likely will cut rates in September but perhaps they don't need to cut too aggressively or too fast.If you, you need to insure your car, for example, you need to live somewhere, you need to buy food.Yeah, so I was a bit nervous heading into this report because I knew if we had a big surprise, a big be a big miss, we were going to see Stocks react.

And what's interesting if you look under the hood and let's say we look at a two month chart down about 10% even a name like in video, which has really seemed to have led this rally here also down 10% over two months. And we keep waiting for NVIDIA at the end of the month. So sort of set the table for us, where are they trying to pull data from and where are they blocked from?So general purpose A I models like chat GP T, um, they need to have very tremendous capabilities and a lot of different tasks.Um, so that they can gain the scale of data to have this really strong performance that we see.

And then I guess adding to it, the fact Jane, as you mentioned, it's not necessarily legally enforceable when you say to someone don't scrape my site and there's just a report in the Financial Times today that anthropic has been accused of scraping sites even though they say don't.

What does it say about the, how will it inform the quality of the models and the training that they're able to do?And so one of the key concerns there is, is an antitrust problem, right? And so people can't even express their preferences in a way that companies can, uh, or, or will or can respect, um, or sorry, accurately convey their preferences in a way that allows them to do to determine how their data is used.

What makes McCarthy's meniscus injury even more unfortunate is the potential he flashed this past weekend. Meanwhile, Christian Wilkins is perfect for the Raiders and the new coaches in Seattle could be cooking up something fun.Warren Buffett offered more details Wednesday about the stocks he has been selling lately, including confirming that he sold more than 389 million Apple shares during the second quarter.
