Meridian Street.INDIANAPOLIS — A new housing development will go up on North Meridian Street with the help of a partnership between the city and a private developer.and City-County Council President Vop Osili to break ground on The Stella, which will be a $45 million mixed-use development.

“The Stella is a public-private partnership that continues the growth of the North Meridian Corridor into a connected and vibrant mixed-use community,” Hogsett said. “No matter where you live, no matter where you come from, we’re advancing Indianapolis into a city where there’s opportunity for all. We’ll continue leveraging our economic development toolbox to ensure that this is a reality for all Indianapolis families.

It will have more than 160 units that will include studio apartments, one- and two-bedroom apartments, along with 1,500 square feet of retail space, and 7,500 square feet of amenities to a site with formerly vacant buildings and a surface parking lot located at 1815, 1819, 1827 and 1835 N. Meridian St.

At the end of 2022, the City of Indianapolis Department of Metropolitan Development secured $4.6 million bonds from the Indianapolis City-County Council to support the development. As part of the agreement, The Stella will include 5% of units for a family of four making $29,000 or less annually. “All of the sudden, you have 200 people calling this home,” said Chase Smith, VP of market rate development for TWG Development.
