Rabbi Harry Brechner calls on the gathering to “become pursuers of peace”
About 400 people gathered in Centennial Square Thursday night, clutching candles, shedding tears and praying for those killed and kidnapped in last weekend’s attacks in Israel.
Rabbi Harry Brechner of the Congregation Emanu-El and members of Greater Victoria’s Jewish community joined First Nations, Christians and local politicians in an emotional prayer vigil. Brechner led the gathering in song and prayer, encouraging people to embrace. He called on the gathering to “become pursuers of peace” during the difficult time.“There’s fear and anxiety and there’s a sense to constantly check in with each other about what’s happening with friends and family in Israel.
