Worried that your iPhone is a coronavirus transmission vector? Apple now says you can clean it with isopropyl alcohol wipes or Clorox disinfecting wipes
Using a 70 percent isopropyl alcohol wipe or Clorox Disinfecting Wipes, you may gently wipe the hard, nonporous surfaces of your Apple product, such as the display, keyboard, or other exterior surfaces. Don't use bleach. Avoid getting moisture in any opening, and don't submerge your Apple product in any cleaning agents. Don't use on fabric or leather surfaces.
The company notes that you shouldn’t use disinfecting wipes or isopropyl alcohol wipes on leather or cloth surfaces and that raises a good point. Now would be the time to swap your leather iPhone case for something a little more utilitarian. A polycarbonate case may not have quite the same warmth or look as leather, but it can be easily popped off and thoroughly washed with soap and water without fear of damage.
No word on whether Apple’s new cleaning instructions are permanent, but you’re now covered in terms of keeping your iPhone safe to handle for the duration of the coronavirus outbreak.
