Donald Trump’s standard 2024 stump speech includes a vow that invariably receives far-right applause: “I will not give one penny to any school that has a vaccine mandate.” Though the Republican hasn’t offered details as to how this would work, it raises the prospect of a second Trump administration denying federal funds to schools that try to stop the spread of polio.
The Washington Examiner reported: The Republican candidate added that when it comes to education and student performance, “we’re at the bottom of every list.” It led Trump to ask, in reference to his regressive spending plans, “What the hell do you have to lose?” There’s no shortage of problems with such a pitch, starting with the fact that American students are not, in fact, “at the bottom of every list.
