Yaroslava Mahuchikh jumps 2.10 metres at Diamond League meet in Paris

Yaroslava Mahuchikh of Ukraine reacts after winning the High Jump Women during the Paris 2024 Diamond League at Stade Charlety on July 7 in Paris.Ukraine’s best high jumper captured a world record on Sunday to go with her world championship, and now she has a good reason to think she might bring home an Olympic gold medal to her war-torn country.

She then cleared 2.07 metres to set a Ukrainian record and had the bar raised to 2.10, which she cleared on her first try. Less than an hour after Mahuchikh’s record, Faith Kipyegon of Kenya eclipsed her own world record in the women’s 1,500 metres on Sunday. Kipyegon finished in 3:49.04, surpassing her record of 3:49.11, which was set in Italy last year. The 30-year-old Kipyegon is a two-time Olympic gold medalist in the 1,500, having won in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and Tokyo in 2021.
