England Generating Station, officials said.

The implosion of the closed facility in the Marmora section of Upper Township along the Great Egg Harbor Bay has been scheduled for 10 a.m. on Oct. 26, township officials said in a statement. The demolition of distinctive facility visible from the Garden State Parkway bridge between Atlantic and Cape May counties has been underway for more than a year.Possible locations include the biking and walking path beside the nearby Garden State Parkway, Upper Township officials said.

The generating station has been preparing for the implosion for months by removing nearby structures and has secured the necessary permits.Constructed in 1961, the plant ran on coal and diesel turbines.
