Two tailings pond leaks at Imperial Oil facilities have inflamed tensions in Alberta over the management of mining wastewater. Read on.

“I’m lost for words because I’ve never had so many ministries and officials call me up,” Adam said. “Well, ‘sorry’ doesn’t cut it after nine months of concealing it.” The company said the seepage from the spring, discovered last May, escaped its interception system for the tailings area because it occurred in shallower ground layers not protected by the system.Article content
