RCMP is investigating a case of impaired driving after a pickup truck crashed into a road sign in Greater Victoria.

A witness saw an F350 pickup truck speeding when it jumped the curb onto the sidewalk and crashed into a street sign near Craigflower Road and Admirals Road in View Royal near Victoria just before 10 p.m. on Thursday, said West Shore RCMP.When officers arrived, the vehicle had already fled, headed toward Victoria.

In the wake of the crash, the truck left behind debris, including a partly crumpled impaired-driving sign and a licence plate. Victoria Police was informed of the crash, and officers found the truck minutes later near Craigflower Road and Catherine Street, about four kilometres away.West Shore RCMP spokeswoman Cpl. Nancy Saggar thanked the witness and the Victoria Police Department for their quick actions. “This was a dangerous impaired driver who was taken off the roadway just minutes after the report to police came in,” she said.B.C.
