The Commissioner of Police, CP, Imo State Command, Aboki Danjuma, has condemned the killing of personnel of Mopol 18, Owerri, by gunmen suspected to be members of the proscribed Indigenous People Of Biafra, IPOB, and its armed affiliate, the Eastern Security Network, ESN.
A statement by the Command's Public Relations Officer, ASP Okoye Henry, stated that the slain officers were ambushed in the early hours of Saturday while on along Old Gariki Road, Okigwe, by unknown gunmen who attacked them with dynamite. He disclosed that the security men responded immediately engaging the attackers in a gun battle which led to the death of two officers while four survived the attack.
In addition, the Assistance Commissioner of Police in charge of Okigwe, the DPO and other Tactical Units stationed in Okigwe have been charged by the Commissioner of Police to embark on visibility patrol, intelligence led raids of criminal hideouts and place water tight surveillance to forestall any future occurrence.
