Houston Botanic Garden's stunning immersive light display opens for winter

The effect is a different kind of immersive experience at each stop along the one-mile trail, says the garden’s Justin Lacey. The field of 2,000 blue-and-white flowers is bisected by a walking path, allowing groups to pose surrounded by LED likenesses of the state flower.

Throughout the path, the installations “take your breath away,” Lacey says. “You’re out in the open, and yet the music is really atmospheric.” Each of the works on the path takes advantage of the garden’s natural beauty. At one point, the trail detours to take visitors under a canopy of banana leaves in the Global Collection. The garden is home to 11 varieties of bananas.

In the Culinary Garden, guests will encounter"Fire Garden," a dramatic grouping of individual stakes of real flames.
