Bryan Kohberger, the suspect who is accused of murdering four University of Idaho students, was reportedly seen by law enforcement moving trash into neighbors' trash cans in the middle of the night and wearing gloves frequently while at his family's Pennsylvania home before his arrest.
Kohberger, 28, also"cleaned his car, inside and outside, not missing an inch" before being taken into custody, per CNN.Authorities, who monitored Kohberger until an arrest warrant could be obtained, spotted him wearing surgical gloves multiple times when outside and moving trash into neighbors trash cans at 4 a.m. while in Albrightsville, Pennsylvania, the outlet reports, citing an anonymous law enforcement source.
Kohberger's shielding his hands and throwing out trash at odd hours didn't deter authorities. It was footage from a traffic stop in Indiana during the suspect's drive from Washington to Pennsylvania that was used to get footage of Kohberger's hands, and DNA from trash obtained outside the Pennsylvania home furthered suspicions by police about the 28 year-old when they matched his DNA to elements found at the crime scene.
The white Hyundai Elantra, which Kohberger was reportedly seen deep-cleaning, was also a key part of the investigation that led authorities to Kohberger. Police named Kohberger as the sole suspect in the murder case in late December 2022. He is accused of killing four University of Idaho students, Ethan Chapin, 20, Xana Kernodle, 20, Madison Mogen, 21, and Kaylee Goncalves, 21, in their beds in their Moscow, Idaho, home on Nov. 13, 2022.
Kohberger is suspected by police to have killed the students at about 4 a.m., with one of the two surviving students in the house describing seeing a figure in black clothing and a mask walking past her, further saying she was in a"frozen shock phase" after the encounter, per court documents.Kohberger was charged with four counts of first degree murder and one count of burglary in his first appearance in an Idaho court Thursday.
