Niagara IceDogs goaltender Tucker Tynan, who suffered a severe cut to the thigh from a skate blade last month, underwent surgery on Thursday “to ensure his muscle is re-attaching properly.”

Niagara IceDogs goaltender Tucker Tynan underwent surgery on Thursday “to ensure his muscle is re-attaching properly,” the team announced on Twitter.Tucker Tynan had surgery this morning to ensure his muscle is re-attaching properly.Tucker is expected back in Niagara within the next 6-8 weeks to begin his rehabilitation.Tynan initially underwent surgery on Dec. 12 after he suffered a severe cut to the thigh from a skate blade in a game against the London Knights.

The 17-year-old from Chicago was tended to by medical staff from both teams on the ice before being carted off on a stretcher and taken to hospital. He had surgery and was released five days later. IceDogs general manager Joey Burke said at the time that the collaborative efforts of both teams’ training staffs and on-ice personnel saved Tynan’s life.

“There was a point in time last night that there was an option that he may have died on the ice due to loss of blood,” Burke said.
