Gaunce on Oilers' goaltending: 'My concern level is very high'Kirill Marchenko is on the ice this morning as he skates in his first practice since joining the Maple Leafs.

Marchenko was acquired on Monday in a big trade from the Columbus Blue Jackets that saw winger Matthew Knies go the other way. Marchenko immediately jumped into the Leafs lineup without a practice on Tuesday night against the Montreal Canadiens, where he had an assist and four shots on goal in 20:08 of ice time in a 3-2 loss. The Maple Leafs are back in action Saturday night against the Ottawa Senators.

With Connor Hellebuyck still suspended as he continues to hold out for a trade, goaltender Stuart Skinner is expected to start. Skinner, 27, split the 2025-26 season between the Edmonton Oilers and Pittsburgh Penguins. In Pittsburgh, he went 12-9-5 with an .885 save percentage and 2.99 goals-against average. Watch the Jets take on the Bruins LIVE at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on TSN3 and streaming on TSN.ca and the TSN App.

Forward Andrei Kuzmenko has rejoined the team and is back at practice after taking a leave of absence the death of his father. Kuzmenko scored 13 goals with 25 points in 52 games last season with the Los Angeles Kings. He joined Pittsburgh as a free agent on July 1, signing a one-year, $5 million contract. The Penguins opened the season with a 7-0 win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday and host the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night.

The Senators have loaned defenceman Hoyt Stanley to AHL Belleville on Friday. Stanley, a fourth-round pick by Ottawa in 2023, turned pro at the end of last season after wrapping up his junior season at Cornell. Per Postmedia's Bruce Garrioch, Stanley going to the AHL is a good sign that defenceman Jake Sanderson may be ready for Saturday's season opener against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Sanderson has been dealing with an undisclosed injury since Saturday's preseason contest against the Montreal Canadiens. He departed the game and missed some practices this week. He is on the ice for practice this morning. Defenceman Artem Zub was also on the ice for practice this morning while sporting a yellow non-contact jersey.

This is the first time Zub has hit the ice this season as he continues to work his way back from a knee injury.
