President Donald Trump’s White House reportedly pushed for detained immigrants to be released by ICE in sanctuary cities and strong Democratic areas.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials refused alleged requests by President Donald Trump’s White House to release immigrants it had detained into America’s “sanctuary cities” as revenge against the Democrats for blocking his border wall funding.
"The extent of this administration’s cynicism and cruelty cannot be overstated," Ashley Etienne, Pelosi’s communications director, said in a statement, reported ABC News. So-called sanctuary cities are jurisdictions in which the governing authorities effectively turn a blind eye to undocumented migration. They allow undocumented migrants to access local services and work jobs despite their status.
Trump is currently attempting to build a large wall along the southern U.S. border with Mexico in order to keep out more undocumented migrants. He declared a national emergency over the issue, claiming it is a crisis, after Congress did not authorize a budget that contained the funding he demanded for the wall.
