I don’t blame pasta alone ; by nature, writing is a physically stagnant profession, and I never had been someone who enjoyed working out. Food, wine, and travel aren’t just my job, they are my life and what keeps me interested and inspired. In short, I don’t have other hobbies. Over the course of those two-plus years, I had slipped into bad patterns of eating, writing, recipe testing, drinking wine, and not much else.

So I began to make small, slow changes. Pasta wasn’t forbidden, but zucchini noodles replaced it far more regularly. Vegetables took center stage, and meat became an accessory. I measured out olive oil and tried to eat foods high in fiber. I started going to the gym and Pilates regularly, and no one was more surprised than me that I actually didn’t hate it.
