'I think of dignity': President JoeBiden praises SpeakerPelosi upon stepping down as speaker
President Joe Biden released a statement in the wake of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi stepping down from leadership, saying,"When I think of Nancy Pelosi, I think of dignity."
In 2007, Pelosi became the first female House speaker, which Biden's statement noted, but it goes on to say that was just the beginning of the history she made during four terms in the role. The president noted Pelosi's role in approving bank bailouts following the Great Recession, passing Obamacare, ending the"don't ask, don't tell" policy on gay people in the military, and passing the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan, the $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill, and the $738 billion Inflation Reduction Act, among other legislation.
