'I kind of don’t watch it now just because it infuriates people so much, like, ‘How? How have you never watched any Star Wars?’ And I just kinda wanna see how long I can make it now.”
Keep on fighting the good fight, Margot. Photo: VALERY HACHE/AFP/Getty Images I have seen one Star Wars film, and only because it landed on a college syllabus for some extremely niche reason. Having fallen asleep immediately, I can’t claim to have watched for more than 15 disjointed minutes, and while I am content to live in this state of cinematic ignorance forever, others are not so happy with my choices.
I absolutely do not; no one does, but once you realize just how pissed off people get about Star Wars abstinence, the series of bug-eyed brain explosions becomes immensely satisfying to witness in real time. Margot Robbie, who once found a severed human foot on a beach, agrees. She has launched a Star Wars boycott of her own, and I support her wholeheartedly in this endeavor.
Robbie and two of her Once Upon a Time in Hollywood co-stars, Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt, sat down with MTV to discuss, among other things, classic movies they’ve never seen. Robbie first took a moment to highlight DiCaprio’s habit of angrily lecturing her on the films she should be watching, before dropping the bomb. “I’ve never seen any Star Wars,” she said, to a small yelped “what!” from her interviewer.
“And I kind of don’t watch it now just because it infuriates people so much, like, ‘How? How have you never watched any Star Wars?’” she continued. “And I just kinda wanna see how long I can make it now.” In the sea of seemingly engineered-to-be-relatable answers that Robbie has fired off in interviews, this one — for me personally — is hands-down the most authentically resonant. I hope she makes it all the way.
