I never planned to become an author. I studied to become a teacher, but I realised teaching wasn’t for me and that’s when I got into recruitment. I climbed the ranks and ended up owning my own recruitment business in Manchester, but I stepped away from that when my three sons were small and my father was diagnosed with dementia. Many years later, as a 51-year-old post-menopausal woman, I made the decision to go back to work.
