That would be the final as Gushue and company beat Italy and finished Day 1 of the tournament with a record of 1-1. Team Canada is made up of Gushue, vice-skip Mark Nichols, second E.J. Harnden and lead Geoff Walker. Ryan Harnden is the team’s alternate, while Caleb Flaxey is Canada’s coach. “We were just a little sharper this evening,” Harnden told reporters. “We weren’t far off earlier today too. So, it's getting closer. There are still some things we need to tidy up but it's still early and the most important is that we won.”
