Corbeil grew up a Rock fan. They were his first exposure to professional lacrosse: He attended their games, watched them celebrate league titles. After a lengthy run of success, the Rush stumbled last season and missed the playoffs with an 8-10 record. Corbeil, as a pending free agent, expected to be traded at the deadline, but the team held onto him and made a spirited last-month push for a playoff spot that fell short in the end.
“Part of me really wants it to happen so I can say a proper farewell to the fans and get a chance to see a lot of the staff I wouldn’t otherwise,” Corbeil said. “By the same token, I think it would be really difficult to play against those guys. They’re my family, and I still wish the best for them. A lot of my best friends are there — guys and girls I would consider brothers and sisters. It would be really mixed emotions — a conflict of interest, so to speak, to go against them.
