Freddie Prinze Jr. casts doubt on his return for the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot, saying he hasn’t been presented with an offer.
I Know What You Did Last Summer original star Freddie Prinze Jr. addresses whether Ray will return for the reboot, and his response isn't very encouraging. Released in 1997, I Know What You Did Last Summer follows a group of friends who are hunted by a hook-wielding killer after they attempt to get away with a hit-and-run.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In a recent interview with TooFab, Prinze Jr. casts some doubt on whether he will return as Ray for the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot. Surprisingly, the actor reveals that he learned of the film only when it was announced by the press and that he hasn't even been presented with an offer to return, at least not yet. Check out Prinze Jr.
"I have been offered nothing, nothing. They just said that to get people excited. I haven't spoken to anyone at their company, my agents haven't received an offer from them whatsoever. I had a conversation with the director a few days after they announced that, just to be like, 'Yo, what the hell? Why are they saying I'm going to be in a movie I'm probably not going to be in?' And she said, 'Let me pitch you the idea.
2022's Scream was a hit critically and commercially, revitalizing the franchise and leading to a sixth installment, which just hit theaters. The announcement of an I Know What You Did Last Summer legacy sequel is seemingly an attempt to capitalize on this renewed love for aged horror franchises.
While 2022's Scream was a success, it remains to be seen if I Know What You Did Last Summer can pull off a similar feat. Scream spawned several successful and generally well-received sequels, but only the first I Know What You Did Last Summer is really worth watching. More details regarding the upcoming legacy sequel will hopefully be released in the weeks to come, but it certainly sounds like there's a chance Ray won't be returning.
