Before we moved, I was working for the City of Portland as a training and development analyst. My husband and I owned a lovely little 1,000-square-foot home that we bought through a first-time-homebuyers program that helped people that had a hard time buying in a difficult market. We only gained 10% equity in our home, but it was supposed to be a stepping stone.
Surprised, I found there were a handful and began to compare and contrast the different ones that existed. When I read about Remote Shoals, my research led me to get excited about the music, arts, culture, and theater scene juxtaposed with the Tennessee River.I was one of a handful of recipients and was approved in December 2020 within two months of applying. I never in my wildest dreams would have imagined living in the Shoals.
I now work at a local copper wire manufacturer in their training department. I'm no longer working virtually, but the job better aligns with my life vision. After a short time, we were also able to purchase a rental property that gives us the potential to build wealth for our children and leave them with something. We just could never have done that back home, not in our wildest dreams.We've also experienced some culture shock since moving to Florence.
