Four inmates who boot-stomped a man to death in his jail cell should spend eight to 10 years in prison for their crime, the Crown argued at a sentencing hearing on Friday.
Four men pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the 2022 beating death of a fellow inmate at the Drumheller Institution.
David James Klassen, 33, was attacked and fatally injured at the Drumheller Institution on Feb. 21, 2022. The attack involved stomping on Klassen's head and neck, according to an agreed statement of facts filed as part of the guilty plea last year.At the time of his death, Klassen was serving a 10-year prison sentence for manslaughter. In 2017, he admitted to killing a man who had stolen money from him. The killing was related to drug trafficking.Sheila Klassen said her grief "feels like it will never end.
