River Found Bleeding Near Patio Door

He was looking for his golden retriever that had gotten loose. Brown told him she had not seen the dog. Within minutes, Brown went back inside and found River lying near the patio door, covered and surrounded in blood. The golden retriever was nearby after it had busted through the screen door.

She grabbed the attacking dog by its collar and pulled it outside before it could get to her other Yorkie, Dexter. She then yelled for the owner to come and get his dog. Brown thought River might still be breathing, so she wrapped her in a towel and ran out the door. She was trying to find someone who could take her to the nearest vet.

A neighbour agreed to drive her and River to a veterinary clinic in Harrow. River died before they could get her there. Brown said that when she opened the towel to look for the wound, she saw that her dog's organs had all been ripped out of her body. She said all she saw at first was the blood.

The attack has left Brown completely devastated. The worst part of the whole thing, she said, is that no matter what happens, she cannot get her dog back. Brown described River as the sweetest dog, who was very friendly and had no problem with any dogs. She said that nine times out of ten, if River saw another dog, she would roll on her belly to show she was no threat.

Brown Terrified After Dog Attack

Brown said the attack has left her terrified because the dog came right into her house. She said a dog cannot be safe in its own home if something like this can happen. The incident has also changed how Brown lives with Dexter, her remaining dog. She said she is afraid to let him out alone in the yard and now keeps the patio door closed at all times.

Brown said she does not even leave the patio door open anymore because she is afraid the dog might come back into the neighbourhood. Brown said the whole experience has been devastating. She said the OPP attended her home and documented the scene. OPP has confirmed that officers are investigating the fatal dog attack.

Brown said that no matter what happens, she cannot get her dog back and she has to live with that.
