The new bridge was constructed next to the existing bridge as a part of Utah’s Accelerated Bridge Construction method, which UDOT said “reduces delays and traffic restrictions for drivers.”
The freeway is closed in both directions between 700 East and Foothill Drive in Salt Lake City from 8 p.m. April 14 through 5 a.m. April 17. 1300 East itself will be closed through 5 a.m. April 21, A portion of Interstate 80 is closed this weekend as crews work to replace the 1300 East bridge.
During the closure, crews will demolish the existing 1300 East bridge over I-80 and slide a new bridge into place. Drivers in the area should use the I-215 belt route as an alternate roadway, and should also plan for heavy travel delays, agency said in a news release. More detour routes are available onThe 1300 East bridge was built in the early 1960s. The new bridge will provide a 17-foot-wide trail on the east side and a new sidewalk on the west side to enhance safety for people who walk and bike, UDOT said in a news release.
