Interstate 70 through northwest metro Denver is going under the knife in a big way this summer.

The repaving project begins next week, after the Fourth of July holiday weekend, between Wadsworth Boulevard and Pecos Street. The work will happen in the evening and overnight hours through the end of October, generally moving from west to east, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

A news release says lane closures will occur Sunday through Thursday nights, with a single lane closing in work zones at 7 p.m. and a second lane blocked off in the late evening. All lanes should reopen by 6 a.m. each day, though a grinded surface will greet drivers at times. In the eastern part of that project zone, crews on a separate project have been replacing neighborhood noise walls along the highway between Tennyson Street and Lowell Boulevard.
