From International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 636 perspective, outstanding issues were improving benefits and safety concerns.
The current collective agreement with the IBEW Local 636 expired on March 31, 2023, according to a statement released by Hydro Ottawa on Friday morning.
Conciliation talks broke down at the end of May, Hall said. The union met with the employer for nine days of bargaining, the last three with the help of a conciliator, which led to a final offer from the company. That offer was voted down by 81 per cent of the membership on May 31, he said. “But this is also a daily issue and workers want supervision with a deep understanding of how work is performed,” said Hall.
