Hydro Ottawa is warning customers that more multi-day outages are possible as the capital experiences more intense weather events.
Hydro Ottawa President and CEO Bryce Conrad says the derecho storm that hit the capital in May 2022 caused $25 million of damage to infrastructure. The funds have not been recouped by the provincial level of government.Conrad told council Wednesday that the city must have "upset a weather god," given the amount of severe weather in the past few years.
Conrad says Hydro Ottawa will do what it can to best protect the infrastructure, but residents need to be prepared for emergencies that last up to 72 hours. Conrad says they have targeted about $500 million in work to bury some key infrastructure over the next seven to 10 years.
