The Carolina Hurricanes have strengthened their forward core by acquiring veteran players Taylor Hall and Artturi Lehkonen from the Chicago Blackhawks and Colorado Avalanche, respectively. The trades involve draft picks and salary retention.

as part of the package in return for Rantanen , along with a second- and fourth-round draft pick in the 2025 and 2026 NHL Draft respectively.

Chicago is receiving their 2025 third-round draft pick, which was traded to the Hurricanes for a 2024 third-round pick earlier, in return for Hall. The Blackhawks are also retaining half of Rantanen's salary. Rantanen, who is slated to be an unrestricted free agent this coming summer, has 25 goals and 64 points in 49 games with the Avalanche this year. The 28-year-old forward has gone over 100 points each of the last two campaigns.

Hall, 33, has nine goals and 24 points with the Blackhawks this season in 46 games. The former Hart Trophy winner was in his second campaign with Chicago. The addition of the veterans bolsters an already-strong forward group for the Hurricanes, who rank second in the Metropolitan Division at 30-16-3 through 49 games. Carolina ranks fifth in the NHL with 165 goals scored entering play on Friday., Hall played only 56 games across a season and a half with Chicago, where he tallied 28 points and registered a -18 rating.
