Hurricane Dorian weakens slightly but grows in size as it moves toward U.S.

JUST IN: Dorian now Cat. 2 hurricane, gradually moving northwestward with 110 mph winds, NHC says. • Expected to move 'dangerously close' to Florida and then 'very near' Georgia and South Carolina • Hurricane Warning issued for parts of South Carolina

A storm surge warning meanwhile was extended northward from Florida to about midway up South Carolina's coast. Much of South Carolina's coast is also now under a hurricane warning.

"It’s as if we’re fighting a war with the enemy having all the weapons at its disposal," Prime Minister Hubert Minnis told reporters. Minnis said that images and videos seen by officials are heartbreaking, with many homes and businesses and other buildings completely or partially destroyed.
