Huntsville brings an 11-5 record into the tournament, having lost to the No. 1 Class 3A team in Georgia, the No. 1 7A in the AHSAA, the No. 2 teams in 7A and 6A in the AHSAA and the No. 1 Tennessee private school.

“Kids have grown up coming to this event,” Huntsville coach Christian Schweers said. “It’s a big deal in North Alabama to be in it. Kids dream about playing in that tournament. Defending Classic champ Sparkman, ranked No. 6 in 7A, will carry a 12-4 record into a 1:30 p.m. game against No. 2 6A Buckhorn. The Senators have won two tournaments already this season.
“This is one of those tournaments that’s really big in the community,” Sparkman coach Jamie Coggins said. “It’s well-attended – it’s a packed house for almost every game – and almost every game is one where the fans are really knowledgeable about the game. “My goal in this tournament,” Schweers said, “is for us to play the best teams we can play. We want to keep moving in the right direction and get better prepared for January and February. We want to see different styles of play because you have to be able to play different styles for the one-and-done games that matter. That’s why I’m excited about it.”
The Senators returned just one starter from last year, but have 10 seniors on the roster. “Most of these guys were on the JV team or they got limited minutes on the varsity. We’re a very inexperienced team, but we keep growing and keep improving.”
