For four seasons, whenever a rare losing streak appeared, the Astros took solace when Verlander took the mound.
Brown struck out a career-high seven batters, issued two walks and allowed just one unearned run. He is the first Astros starter this season to finish seven innings. Leadoff man Chas McCormick drove in four of Houston’s five runs while Jeremy Peña provided a run-scoring single in the eighth. Brown demonstrated everything enticing about his potential. He didn’t have great command, found himself in some disadvantage counts and had two groundballs misplayed behind him. None of it appeared to matter.
